I know express updates consist mostly of the vital updates to Windows XP, but I was toying with the Custom updates a while ago but don't know which ones I should get & install. So any advice from you guys?

Here are what custom updates presented to me:

Windows Genuine Advantage Validation Tool - Actual Express updates showed this one
    Root Certificates Update
    Microsoft .NET Framework 2.0: x86 (KB829019)
Windows Search 4.0 for Windows XP (KB940157)
    Microsoft .NET Framework version 1.1

I do know I might need the .NET Framework update if I'll be using Paint.NET, but which of the two should I pick?

Choose the 2.0 Framework. Although you should get 3.5 manually. And the Root Certificates. And maybe the Genuine Tool. The search probably won't be needed. But wait for a second opinion from Loony.

search is a waste of time, I wouldnt bother with the genuine tool either. get the others though.

So I should get the update root certificates & the .NET Framework, but which one, the 1.1, 2.0 or what anand suggested 3.5?

Thanks loony, logging off for a while.

    EDIT:

Alright I just finished downloading & installing the updates, excluding the genuine advantage tool & windows search of course. Now I have three follow up questions:

    1. Reading up on the information about Windows .NET Framework, I saw that aside from the 3.5 version anand spoke off, there is also a 3.0 version, should I also get both of them or only one?

    2. The versions 3.0 & 3.5 don't show up on the update page, so as anand says I should manually download them, where can they be found?

    3. After installation of above updates & restarting my system, I noticed that upon starting up Windows, my system asked me to pick a user who'll log on, this was odd as there's only my account who uses my PC. Upon inspecting "user accounts" I find this "ASP.NET Machine A..." account was created. I'm guessing this is a part of the .NET Framework, so should I leave it alone or could I delete it?

3.5 can be gotten from the Microsoft website of course. I have 2.0 and 3.5 since 3.5 didn't remove the previous version. I guess you'd need that for older applications that use 2.0. Just get 3.5.
