ACORN, or the Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now, is a grassroots social movement that built a popularity through the 90's, and cemented it's ties to President Obama during the elections, acting almost as the advocate group for Obama.

Some believe that ACORN started on good terms, but grew substantially into a more radical group, even going so far in the 90's to intimidating banks to hand out high risk loans to low credit customers while it's high ups' were laundering large amounts of the nonprofit money. They are now being investigated for voter fraud, with upwards of hundreds of thousands of votes not being valid during the 2008 campaigns, which Obama distanced himself from effectively.

On a brighter note though, ACORN since 2004 has helped low income families recieve free tax breaks. Almost $190 million in refunds has been giving to the families they've helped.

Now with the government wishing to sever all monetary ties with the organization because of the surge in faurd and tax evasion suits against it, it begs for the question:

Is ACORN still the hopeful social movement that it once was, or has a majority of it's assistance to people in need just a facade to cover up a much larger scandal?

Opinions? For those in other countries who might have an organization like ACORN, share your thoughts about them.

I think ACORN needs to be shut-down completely.

They have no business existing after what they did in the 2008 elections.
The fraud and corruption in the establishment is astounding and I am surprised that it is even still open to this day.

A while back, there was a raid by federal agents and they seized countless numbers of documents that had hundreds of voters registered multiple times and they were using professional athletes and other people's names in some of their published material without the consultation of those people.

There was an account of a lower-class man who ACORN had him register to vote 17 times on different occasions.

I just think that they are a load and should have been shut-down when they were first found to be carrying out illegal activities.
