Why does this make any sense at all? If you share the link, more people will use the site. This isn't good for some reason? Why ban for referrals? I was never planning on giving out links randomly. Maybe to my friend that has R4, but I didn't think of that until 5 seconds before I just typed it then. Can anyone explain this rule?
You are very welcome to share links like this: https://www.romulation.org/NDS/3540_-_Pokemon_Platinum_(U)(Xenophobia).rar.html/ However, links that start with: http://eu2.romulation.net/fetch.php?h=etaOrPD6WHF... are tied to your account, this means that if you send such a link to your friend he can download without actually going through RomUlation, this is bad for us since we make no advertising revenue then. Also, it is bad for you because now we have 2 ips logged on a download within an hour or so, if we get 3 ips logged within such a short time we start getting suspicious and might ban the account. So use the links to the information page instead.
Hmm. But if your friend or whoever, wanted more downloads, then you could point them in direction of the site. Your second reason is kinda weird too. I know how forums and things work, (I'm an admin or moderator on quite a few.) So I see why having 3 ips on the same account would be suspicious. Automatic proof of hax? No. You could be completely nuts and just run around to people's houses and use their computers. XDD Yeah, okay, that was kinda stupid. But still. I think it's still not a good rule.. <_<'
Nor do we consider it automatic proof of hax, we use many factors such as origin of IP and time scale of the downloads. So if you visit a friends house and download there or you download via the library then it's very rarely a problem, we have gotten quite good at figuring how when it's a case of people putting links out in public and when it's just personal use. I don't see this reasoning at all. It costs us money to run this site, this is money we get back through premium membership and advertising. When you spread your download links you bypass both of those things. If we allowed people to do that and most people did it then we would not recover the money we spend on the site.
Just tell your friend to make his own account, that way we can have another member to add to the growing list Sharing the User exclusive links is, as Seph explains, is bad, why? Well, put it this way: Say you're hosting these files yourself, now, you have the links to the files being handed out, meaning others won't see what a good site you have, possibly preventing them from liking the site and registering to be a part of the (somewhat twisted XD) community, as well. And factor in the site hits you're lacking also makes for lack of those votes for the 'best romsite' and ads that people will normally see when visiting and browsing about, loss of possible revenue and traffic. In short, you have less funds to offset the cost of maintaining the site and to pay for server costs. Now, to derail the rest of this post so I can stop typing so damn much XD BBvbvbbvvbvbVB :\/
