Hello, Im having trouble with playing an online game (neo steam) with a couple of nephews of mine and would like to ask for some help if possible.

My ISP is a cable company and is connected to a D-LINK router to distribute internet connection to 2 desktop PC's.

The problem is that I can connect to the online game but my nephew cannot. An error appears stating that the his IP address is already connected (While I am playing). Is there a way to fix this?

there isnt one. if they only allow playing from one account per IP address the only way around it is another internet connection.

in some MMO games you can contact the people that run the game and ask them to allow a second connection...but dont put your hopes into that because sometimes they do it to prevent hackers and just wont do it, but its worth a shot...

now do you have a wireless ISP? because in rare cases game servers grab the modem's built-in isp address and i havent found a way around it...

if all else fails, you can get a good 56k dial-up connection and have him play through that. i dont know what kind of game neo-steam is but as long as you use the good connection to download the updates on both pc's, you can run alot of MMORPGs on on dial-up just fine here's a few i played on dial-up fine

    Hero Online
Eternal Lands (not recommended because its so lame)
    Holic
    Perfect World
    World of Warcraft

and some i cant think of just because i've played so many, about the only games dial-up sucks for are Shooter games like Call of Duty, Halo, and other games that depend on your connection for the win

    okay,

    1. have you tried changing the ip address of the other pc on your router>?

    2. are both of you using separate game accounts>? (no game will allow you to play from the same account)

    3. you can buy another ip address from your isp for a lil bit more on your bill (shouldnt be more than $10/month added on your bill)

    4. if you can find out what ip address the game recognized as your ip address you can pinpoint the problem

Won't help, it will be a private address that isnt publically routable and will go through NAT (network address translation) so all the computers on his network have the same IP to the outside world.

Very few ISPs allow that and consumer routers are not able to NAT to multiple public IPs, 95% of consumer routers cant even have more than one public IP defined.

    wont make any difference whatsoever.

Can one PC on your network use a Proxy while the other doesn't?
I mean, sure it will be slower, and there may be a chance that the MMO in question blocks IP addresses from what ever proxy you are using, but it might work?

if they notice he's using a public proxy then his account could get suspended.

actually most cable companies(in the US) are happy to sell you a second ip address and they will help you get it working, i know Comcast does. they'll even come out and help you install it, plus they;ll tell you exactly what you need to make it work. its not cheap but you can do it. my sister and her husband have 2 different ip addresses for their PCs (they game together all the time) and they have comcast. of course money really isnt a problem for them since they both have excellent paying jobs. if i can get ahold of my brother-in-law ill ask him how you can go about doing it, but it is totally possible like i said it's just gonna cost ya.

if you have the comcast "triple play" package, you can use the dial-up method i mentioned before ..and since you are in an area that has cable internet you should be able to easily pull off a 56k connection through Juno and it'll only cost you ~$7/ month and it'd be cheaper than buying a new router (which is gonna cost you $150-$200 for the right one) and a second ip address..

and Neo-steam doesnt look like it'd have a problem running on dial-up, read the last post on this link it proves it ;) goodluck
