As you can see from the subject..
I'm here to ask you a simple question..
Is it legal/illegal to download games from here?
    ??? ??? ???

    Illegal.

Doesn't matter if you own the games or not, doesn't matter if you only want to try them, doesn't matter if you delete them later or not.

Still illegal to download them if you have an original copy. You can only create the copy on your own.

I heard the exact opposite for some places.
    Still not sure though...

That's like asking if it's ok to take a stack of newspapers from the machine as long as you paid for one.

It's easiest to look at it this way. It's not the ROM that is illegal, it's the act of sharing it between two people. You can make your own copies, you cannot give or take copies from someone else.

Anyone that says anything else is just lying, so that they feel better and hope that certain people won't report them to the copyright holder.

So being caught with roms is legal as long as you didn't share them to anyone else?

As long as you created the backups of the games yourself, from your own game cartridges. No one can say anything.

Wonder if anyone ever got busted and had to "prove" they had the actual carts...i'd be screwed myself.

honestly, even if you did have the actual cart it wouldn't be possible to prove whether you dumped it yourself or downloaded it. However, in most Western countries, it is up to the claimant to prove guilt, not the defendant to prove innocence.

lol if i got caught for having illegal roms and if they askme where i got it from i would say i downloaded it from www.romulation.net .....LOL am just joking =)
no one really cares if u download the game illegal or not anyway they dont care if its illegal or legal as long as you get to play games correct?

Actually the publishers care very much. They want your money.

Might be a bad time to ask this, but it goes along with what I stated before, but who do you think would get busted first the regular joe what just wants a free game to try out and maybe buy later, or the guy that intends to "re-sell" a batch of roms as a "service" by that I mean, say a full romsets,ISOs for near any system under the guise that your not buying the roms, but the cd or dvds they are placed on and the "time" taken to burn with a minimum "purchase" of 5 discs. The reason I even bought that up I found a local AD claiming this and a friend and I checked it out to see what the deal was and what I stated was pretty much a nutshell version of it. and I thought the guy is just asking for some MAJOR problems.

I think it basically comes down to whoever they catch, but I personally only ever heard about people that are trying to sell the games that get in trouble.
