hi, im a casual MMORPGamer. My PC got reformatted a few weeks ago due to a burned hard disk, now with a new hard disk im having trouble playing online games like flyff, and naROSE. i feel like im missing a driver or two or maybe i installed the wrong driver for my videocard. can someone help. when i play online games its like its moving in slow motion, audio is good though.

Can you google and download 'GPU-Z' then post a screenshot of the first page of the program here? That will allow me to see what graphics card you have.

You have an ATI Radeon X300, while this is not an especially powerful graphics card, it should manage MMOs on lowish settings. I suggest you try one of the following drivers:

    http://downloads.guru3d.com/Radeon-Omega-Drivers-4.8.442-download-1817.html

    or

    http://downloads.guru3d.com/ATI-Catalyst-8.7-Windows-XP-32-bit-download-2000.html

you can also try changing the settings to favour performance over quality; do this in the advanced tab of display properties.

i tried the radeon-omega-driver, and guess what!? it works! i can now walk in my online game in normal speed.
    good bye slowmo!

a big downside though, after a few seconds after game log-in my monitor turns blank-its like the wire connecting the CPU and the monitor is unplugged. after i reset it it turns ok...

    any suggestions for trouble shooting?

I suspect it's changing the screen resolution and your monitor has to adapt to that, in which case there's not much you can do except change the resolution to be the same as your desktop resolution.

*sigh...im becoming so depressed about this...

I tried what you said and used the same resolution for both the desktop and game which is [1024x768][16 bit]. and so i tried a bit of experiment - after i logged in the game i stood still for 1 minute, nothing happened - then i moved my character by clicking on the ground once. then the problem occurred.

btw: i changed my ISP from 500-1000 kbps to 200kbps - does internet speed affect PC performance?

not PC performance, no, but it might well affect gameplay in online games if it's too low.

Is it only that game that the screen goes blank in? If it is it might just be a bug with the drivers for that card, you might want to also give the official drivers a try and see what happens.

i tried what thebass324 said about using its original driver so i did. i installed its display driver, it lasted me a few minutes this time before the screen went blank. also it seems that i have no problem playing flyff-ph , only in naROSE.

One more idea, but this one could be stretching it, does the game have a setting for refresh rate? If so make sure it is set to the same as the desktop refresh rate or just set it to 60 Hz to be safe, if its set too high then it wont display a picture and could damage the monitor.

yah there is, the default is 60 Hz, options are 70,75 Hz. I tried Doing it full screen and it worked for a marvelous 20 minutes!!! woot woot!. sadly after the 20 minute fun the monitor went blank again.

You could try putting the settings on the lowest possible, and the resolution on 800x600, maybe it helps.

If the game has it's own official forums it might be worthwhile to look around in there for a bit to see if anyone else has had this problem and if there is a fix for it.

hehehe...i went to the forums and all i found was either "GM's dont care anymore" and "Im quitting this game".

Well then maybe you should just quit that game.

The LCD can't be your ONLY monitor. What about those ancient things that aren't flat, has a bubble screen and takes up an entire desk?
You HAVE to have one of those lying around.
