I got a strange device of some sort for the PSX. You plug it in on the right corner of the back of the PSX. It has a cover over it. If you remove the cover there's a huge slot for something. It should say "PARALLEL I/O". I plug in my device into that slot and use it to cheat in some of my games. I actually don't know how to use it, but my uncle put in either RE2 action replay codes or RE2 goldfinger codes into the device somehow and when I played it, I'm cheating in the japanese version of RE2. I actually don't know how to add codes in or how to use it because... it's in japanese and chinese... I think you need a cheat disk to put in the device so it could do it's thing. So here are my questions: -What is the true purpose of that slot? -Does anyone else have this device? -Is there a translation for the menu? -What IS this device called anyways? -Does it work for US games? -What is the AR codes for RE1? I want to see if it is similar to Goldfinger. Facts: -When my uncle was putting in cheats into the device, I think he put in Goldfinger disk to cheat for my japanese RE2 game. I cheated all of my japanese RE games with Goldfinger codes. -The main menu in it is in chinese, but the data in it is japanese. -...I forgot how to use it, since it's been a while since I played RE2. ....help me, romu members?
..post a pic-prehaps I can locate it somehow... Though it could just be an extra device slot that has built in cheats.
Well, it's in another language as you said... If you post a pic-prehaps someone here has an idea, if you can that is
there were two 'runs' of the original playstation, and only one of the production runs featured the parallel port. it had nothing to do with country or region.
I have a device for my Playstation that plugs into the I/O port it allows me to use cheat games and it also boots burnt games via swap disc it's sort of a "Mod-Pod" per say. And seems to me it uses the goldfinger codes but it accepted action replay codes as well. I've had it for some years now. You might have something similar to that.
Re: A PSX device I\'m curious about... Huh. A "mod-pod"? Is it about 3" high and 2 1/2" wide, along with a small on and off switch on the side? Post Merge: [time]1248827268[/time] here's what my device looks like. Except mines don't have the gold finger logo and it's in foreign language.
The one I have reads "PS Power Replay" on the sticker where the one you have has "Gold Finger" and its a transparent purple plastic shell, but yeah looks similar.
Well...that I am not sure, unless you just get it running and just push things until something happens, but it would seem to be that it would work like the "Gold Finger", but I noticed you mentioned a CD to add codes, the one I have I didn't need any sort of CD other than an original PSX game to boot up burns/imports with. As for the codes it should be an option in the "pod" itself sadly with it being Japanese you will have to work thru the menus. I don't know if this will even help you but it might http://sadbuttru.tripod.com/index.htm
I would, but my original PSX is dead, I have a modded slim that I use now. Closest thing I could find was the link I posted up you might try following the button presses it shows in it and see if you get similar results.
Well, good news: I deciphered everything and know how to use it. It uses action replay/gameshark codes. No CD required. AWESOME. Only problem is how to transfer the cheats in multidisked games that DON'T let you save at the end of the disk.
Once a code is enabled it should work for the entire game no matter the number of discs and as for the ones that don't allow you to save the codes will still be active when you swap the disc as long as you don't reset or shut off the power to the system.
oh men, i lost mine in a public transport. it was given by my godfather for my 12 birthday and it costed like 100 bucks back then. yeah, that is used for cheats, but they invented the gameshark cd, so that thing is obsolete. you can even download that gameshark cd. dont know if romu host it. well, i think you should keep that, they didnt produce many of those i think.
