Ok so I want to know if an Itouch is a good investment(with biases aside) when it comes to music and Wifi internet streaming. I previosuly made a thread about selling my PSP to get and Itouch and I ultimately decided to keep my PSP but know I have enough money to buy an Itouch(which I've always wanted) Anyways If you guys are against Apple and any of its products please provide me with an alternative portable device in place of the Itouch. It must be able to play music, store photos and videos, doesn't need to have any apps or games and most importantly it must have WIFI so I can use the internet. If you recommend the Zune please provide me with away to be able to buy it from since It's not available here in The Philippines or if you know of a place tell me where besides ordering online. HP and PLAM PDA's are way OVERPRICED here but I have friends that say that they are nice, I think I might consider it
well, to be honest, buying the iTouch now is a recipe for regret because a few months later the next gen iTouch is going to be released... as loony said, a good PDA will do that, but I'm not sure about the music quality though.
The good thing though about the iTouch is that whenever the new gen gets released I can always update the OS. Nothing new when the release new gens. I Believe Its like the PSP when they release new verisons. I'm currently checking PDA's if they are the better way to go
The new software doesn't cover all the changes though. Ultimately, the new version will have new hardware, will probably be more user friendly (at least we can only hope), and will pretty much always trump the previous models. See the progression of the Nano for a prime example. Each generation is completely different from the last in such ways that a simple software update will never put older models up with newer models.
depends on the price range, but any high-spec cell phone released five years back could do that, even more
Not caring about apps does open up possibilities, but the "I want wi-fi" thing kind of makes it more difficult. If all you wanted was something that could play music, video, and was portable and could store photos, well, your PSP can do all of that. Not to mention the PSP web browser is nearly just as good as the iTouch browser, along with the fact that it can do most anything once hacked. Why go for another device when your PSP does everything already?
My PSP has mostly games and it gets frustrating to decide what i want to put in if ever i need to listen to music and play games. the browser is kind of slow and not very user friendly.
The browser is only as slow as your connection for the most part. I never had an issue with it every time I used it.
Considering things such as Palm PDA's don't exactly have wonderful web browsers, in fact very similar to the PSP in quality (ie: No flash, no java), you're going to have a hard time finding something that isn't an iTouch that fits your very very specific specifications.
I'm actually seeing that more and more now. Well I could always keep saving up until something nice comes out. Update me if you find anything or if there is anything new thats coming out.
Also, if your PSP is fully hackable, you can put something called PSPtube on it that allows you to watch youtube on your PSP (pretty much the only reason I would personally want flash on a handheld). I'll keep an eye out though for something such as what you're looking for. If you do end up getting an iTouch, don't be afraid to enjoy the apps, there are actually some pretty cool ones.
There are so many apps, just look at the store. You should also jail break it as soon as you can. Makes your iTouch far more versatile. Also, there is a Rock Band app that is pretty awesome, and there are tons of petty useless ones that are actually pretty fun to mess with. You'll just have to look around and get what you like.
