I'm currently having a competition where the winner will receive a free copy of the entire Penumbra trilogy for Linux. All that is needed to qualify is to send me an idea for a puzzle to be included in a 2d point-and-click adventure game that is being developed by me and the development team I belong to. Since this is a forum filled with gamers, I was hoping you people would have some great ideas for puzzles! Click here for more information on the competition, the rules and the prize. I have contacted the authors of the Penumbra series to see if the license key is platform independent or if it only works for Linux. I will get back to you once I know for sure. And yes, I do have the author's permission to give away this key. I'm sorry if this counts as posting a referral link. However, I have no commercial interest in this, I just want to get some ideas for our game (which is open-source and will be available for free), and drum up some interest for the Penumbra series.
Hopefully I will get a reply from the author of the games shortly. The last time I was in contact with him, he replied within a few days. With a little luck, he'll be just as quick this time. However, the download code that I have is only valid for the Linux versions. So even if the key is valid for any version, I can still only give out the actual download link for the Linux versions. Perhaps I can talk to the author of the games and see if I can get it traded in or something - but I can't promise anything. Then there's of course the option of illegally downloading the games and using the legit license key - but I'm afraid I can't officially support that.
I have now talked to the author of the games, and the key is valid for both the Linux and the Mac versions of the games. However, due to some technical limitations, the key is not valid for the Windows version.
I would ask the author if you can offer their choice of version and then give them the relevant key for it. The vast majority of people on these boards run windows.
The problem is that the various versions aren't being distributed by the same organization. Specifically, the Windows version is being distributed by one company, and the Mac and Linux versions are being distributed by another.
A horror trilogy for Windows, Linux and Mac. For more information on the game, either go here or here. Yeah, I hope so too! My goal with this competition is to get as many great ideas as possible for our game, while at the same time drumming up some interest for this great series of games. Getting to give away all those games makes it even better!
Sorry for the double post, but I just got word from the author of the series - telling me that I could get a Mac version of the games if the winner preferred that. So, any Mac users are now more than welcome to enter the contest!
I really think you should try to get a windows version if at all possible, otherwise you're ruling out the majority of people who will see this.
I'm afraid that's not possible, since the Windows version is being distributed by another company entirely. And yes, I'm aware of the fact that probably 90% (if not more) of everyone who sees this thread is running Windows. But I'm sure there are some Linux and Mac users out there as well.
