so i recently got an xbox 360 from a friend. he gave it to me saying: "It runs fine. oh, but the optical drive is busted. it wont read disks." and true to his word, the box does indeed run fine. the only (known at this point anyway) issue is that it will not run disks.

a simple fix, i thought, and took the all but dead box from him. what fun it would be to replace the broken optical drive with my good one. what fun i could have looking onto the exposed, though faulty, innards of not one 360, but two!

    .....

    my world is pain. XD
    god was i ever wrong.

it has come to my attention that in order to do this i need to do something called flashing the ODD for firmware updates or some such. anybody here know how to do this? i would greatly appreciate any help on this.

If it's just the laser that's faulty,
you can buy another one and replace it...

If it's something else that's failed, there are two ways...
A legal one and an illegal one...

    Legal: http://forums.llamma.com/viewtopic.php?t=12503
    Illegal: here http://forums.xbox-scene.com/index.php somewhere
