Metal Gear Solid was awesome but I am a big RPG fan. I also beat the game within 24 hours of buying it so in my mind it doesn't register. 8)
i used to love rpg's on the 16bit systems because they were simple. but now everything has gotten complicated that it's a turn off. the story is slow progressing. the lastest party based rpg i've played on a console was tales of symphonia, which was good because of the action based it uses, but i still couldn't understand how to use some of the combo features [something about pressing z at a certain time....]. for handheld was mario and luigi's partner in time which was a simple turn based rpg with a good amount of puzzles. i loved grandia 2 for dreamcast. the system was so simple to understand. even if you stop playing it for a while you can still pick it up and understand what to do without having to do tutorials again.
Yeah I agree RPGs have become rather complicated, the last great RPG that I played was probably Legaia 2. Now I'm into Madden and Fight Night 3 etc.
Final Fantasy 7 Final Fantasy 8 Final Fantasy 9 Metal Gear Solid Resident Evil 1 & 2 They're the main games that saw the inside of my PSX. I didn't include Chrono Cross,Final Fantasy Tactics and Xenogears because, for some strange reason they weren't released in Europe and I've yet to play them...and I cant get playstation emulators to work..
What type of emulator are you trying to run and what is the error message that you get? I may be able to help.
Oh I forgot to mention Vigilante 8, that game was effing sweet too. Oh and legend remember you can always ask for help in the technical help section.

When I first saw this thread, I had to think about it for a couple of days. I finally had to pull out my stash. Grandia Alundra 2 (awesome game) Elemental Gearbolt Wild Arms 2 Kartia Kodelka Final Fantasy IX ( I really liked this one) Klonoa Final Fantasy Chronicles Breath of Fire IV Chrono Cross Vagrant Story Brave Fencer Musashi Lunar Silver Star Story complete ( the GBA version was hacked up and not complete) Lunar 2 Eternal Blue complete Star Ocean the second story Dragon Warrior VII parasite eve (loved the atmosphere) parasite eve 2 Threads of Fate Xenogears ( just recently got a hold of this one and it looks good) Rival Schools Legend of Dragoon Rage Racer (played this to death, loved designing my own car hood) Also the first two Crash games I found very enjoyable. I think I might find myself playing some of these games again. edit: *kicks self in head* how could I forget "Raystorm?"
