OK, this one's going to be on the light side for a change, but mind you that the topic is actually seriously debated over here.

    http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20100601/ap_on_re_as/as_philippines_sex_education

As you can see, the South Park Reference title so fits the news article LOL!

Unfortunately a few "conservative" *cough* hypocrites *cough* Catholic dickholes are trying to impede progress:

    http://ph.news.yahoo.com/gma/20100621/tph-deped-sued-for-including-sex-educati-d6cd5cf.html

Yeah, so South Park showed us how NOT to go about sex education, but it is a subject that needs to be taught. Especially in a country whose majority of its people are still afraid of pedophiles in robes (The Christian Church). It's because of this backward thinking that sex shouldn't be taught in schools or even being mentioned at home the biggest reason why my country is over populated :p

"The eff with the church I say!", that's how our government should stand on this issue. And did you know AIDS is on the rise here now? Again the reason is lack of information as to how people get STI's & the AIDS.

So what if openly teaching sex in schools "might" spark up pre-marital sex in the youth? I mean IT IS happening with or without proper Education, the problem is without the proper information the likelihood of teen pregnancy & contracting infections get higher percentages right?

As Cartman said to the Pharmacist in that episode.... "You want us unprotected asshole!?"

its the "Cahos Condom Emulator" haha it makes you think you're wearing a condom even though you aren't ;P
    (its still in beta)

sex education is a great thing in my opinion..i think its does more good than bad.. i never got to have "sex ed" in my school since when i was going it was a "thing to be taught by your parents".

teaching kids about sexual contact and what not could help prevent sexual abuse in children since they would know that the abuse would be sexual and not a special little game to play with perverts

...This is a hard one to teach.

But frankly, prehaps teaching it earlier is useful considering that sex is A BUILT IN FUNCTION THAT EVEN THOSE WHO'D NEVER GET LAID KNOW!

So yes, teach the advantages of condoms earlier (as well as permission).

But of course, there will always be gaps...and those gaps are going to doom the human race with the product of rape...STD's and unwanted kids.

For a moment there I thought I was going to get a warning from Reider :)

Anyway, I agree with both nu885 & hYpNoS in that Sex Ed, should be taught in schools, but not at an extremely early age like Kindergarten... well you could at least teach kids at that age that boys have penises & girls have vaginas <- Kindergarten Cop reference. But you shouldn't teach them what their genitalia are for until the fifth or sixth grade, the age when hormones start acting up & kids start experiencing what Jimmy did on South Park's "Erection Day" Episode.

Also, the only reason why those backward thinking morons are getting all worked up about "Sex Ed" is the fact that, as I said, these people are hypocrites. I've seen it everywhere, even on local online forums I visit, if you are an outsider, that is you do not belong to a group or clique if you crack out green jokes or jokes of a kinky fashion the members of the inner circle will glare at you & outright say you are an immature jerk. Yet if the joke comes from someone within the group everyone giggles like a five year old on sugar.

This attitude of "sex & of sexual matters being talked about only in a closed circle of people (the simplest unit of course is a family)" is what's lighting up their asses on fire :p

Little do these jerks know that even years earlier Sex Ed was already part of High School Education in my country, but it was not a separate subject, but instead was a part of "P.E. & Health".

Another issue these people are "concerned" with is the terms used referring to genitalia & the act of intercourse per se. I really don't understand where these people are coming from saying that the Filipino words for penis, vagina & intercourse should not be used in class, although my earlier remark hints at a possible reason that being the word for intercourse is lying midway between taboo & an accepted word. I admit, the Filipino terms (as it differs depending which language in the country you use) for intercourse has more oompf than "intercourse" & to an impish fellow the word has its own way of tickling one's fancies. But still, IT STILL IS what it means, covering up the word & making it taboo is still backward thinking.

    EDIT:

So that's where Reider's comment came from.

I'm sorry I didn't know I posted this on the emulator news section, do'h how stupid I'd been :(

I think sex education should be taught around 11ish. any earlier and they may not understand properly, any later and they could already be doing it, its not unusual nowadays for girls to be pregnant at 13.
The first sex education i had was when i was moved school so that would make me about 15, complete waste of time at that age.

What i find funny in this issue is when a spokesperson from CBCP told a reporter that Sex Education is a "kanluraning kaisipan" - Western Ideas. Like Christianity is a native philippine idea...

Teach the people sex education or not, they will still have sex. If they want to save money, i'll go with, don't teach them education. If we like to spend money, then go on with teaching them.

In the end, if there is budget, then there will be projects.

true, but do you know how many ignorant people there are that dont know anything about sex other than where "it" goes in?

of course it doesnt help when you have tv shows like "16 and pregnant" sending a bland message that could easily be mistranslated into " get pregnant and get put on tv"

knowledge is power! even if they still have sex they might be smarter about it by using condoms atleast

the only thing i was taught about sex was to always "pull out" haha

    *House Brand Sex-Ed*

"Do you have hair in your special place?"

They should have started teaching children about sex much sooner.
Would have prevented the debacle in Ireland concerning the church and a whole lot of other messes.

They should teach kids about sex sooner in our modern society. Better in school than in porn I say.

The problem with my country is that people are conservative, VERY conservative, and it's really annoying when people condemn condoms but promote family planning which, ironically, includes condom use.

Bottom line: Teach kids starting from the 4th grade, those kids can handle it.
