new york just recently made online retailers [amazon, newegg, etc...] that ship their products to new york consumers to pay new york state taxes on the products they sell. i know this isn't much of news as they're other online retailers that do the same, such as gamestop and tigerdirect. but the best thing about buying online is to avoid the sales tax. knowing that there is going to be sales tax for online retail merchandise, it becomes meaningless to buy online as you can get the same good locally without having to wait for delivery. for instance, when you buy okami for wii on amazon, instead of waiting on shipping, you'll might as well just go to your local game seller [best buy, gamestop, etc..] and buy it. in the end, the retailers will lose customers. link to the article, http://www.eweek.com/c/a/Government/Amazon-Challenges-NY-Online-Sales-Tax/
That really does suck, I've had to put up with online taxes a few times anyways as I'm from Texas and places like Best Buy ship from Texas and charge us the tax because of it.
