    The title says it all.

Basically, I want to put my computer on standby as to save on resources and electricity while I sleep, but I've read that putting your computer on regular "sleep" mode pauses all the downloads. What I want to know is, is there a way to put my computer on "standby" while still continuing the downloads? Many thanks in advance!

no. Best you can do is have the monitor turn off and disks spin down. so-called 'sleep' mode is actually suspend to RAM, meaning the power is cut to everything except the motherboard and RAM.

Oh I see. Still, it sounds like the electricity is still getting drained by a lot... that's my only concern see. The bills are piling up and I want to cut back as much as I can.

How do you get the disks to spin-down then?

Hmm, this is a quite interesting question indeed. I didn't think much of it when I saw it this morning, but this afternoon I found an ultra-rare series that I loved (and had been searching for for MONTHS) COMPLETE on rapidshare that has never seen a commercial DVD release (The PJs to be exact). I wanna be sure to grab it before rs time-deletes the links. I've got a huge, strong cooling pad for my lappy. Energy usage is not an issue here. Could I let it run overnight (with the fan on, lid closed and screen off) to harvest episodes with jdownloader without it damaging the lappy?

I wouldnt close the lid, to be honest. Quite apart from the fact it will probably put it into standby, it traps heat. Change the power options to disable standby/hibernate and if necessary, have the screen switch off after a set period.
