Now that's one great "Metal Band" right there.

But seriously, Metallica for foreign bands & Wolfgang or Rizal Underground for local. And though they're technically not metal, Radioactive Sago Project gets my vote too.

I don't listen to a whole lot of metal anymore and I'm not very familiar with the territory now, but I'd say Agalloch is top of line as far as black metal goes. Burzum is pretty fucking awful but I enjoy it for some reason from time to time (drunk) as well. It is so raw and hateful and murderous (literally, the guy is a neo-nazi who murders people and burns churches).

The prog metal genre is filled with so much guitar talent but most of it sacrifices composition for wanky musicianship. I tend to listen to stuff like Tool more that doesn't utilize particularly fast instrumentation but puts more focus on melodic and rhythmic "teamwork", especially integrating the drums, which are cool enough in their own right. They do prog in a pretty poppy way as far as progressive metal goes. It's what has made them as popular and accessible as they are but they still manage to interesting.

You can't really count Rush unless you're pushing it. But if you're pushing it, Rush. Moving Pictures and previous albums especially.

Sleep is really great background music for reading and other focused activities because you can't distinguish any 15 seconds of a album from another 15 seconds of the album. It's captures the vibe of ambient in a distorted, heavy way. All of their lyrics paint pictures of smoking weed in a Tolkien-like realm.
