I received the following SMS from Patton today:

Patton lives in an earthquake prone area himself, so he knows what they can be like. If there are any aid agencies in your area collecting for this, and you can donate, then please do so.

Wasn't just China right? Burma was hit with a cyclone the previous week. What are the chances.

Patton's in China? Damn, I hope he's doing okay.

Also, I'm kind of poor (and I lost my life savings wallet with $600 or so just recently. I hope I find that damn thing.) so I only managed to pull together about $5 for the school fund-raiser today. ::). Best wishes to everyone involved in this horrific disaster.

    Is Patton Chinese ?

Almost 51,000 people have died their, here wherever you go you would see donation/relief funds people going around... recently I paid about 20 Euro in UK. That's what can pay in a foreign country.

Yeah, Nelson in NZ alone managed to raise about $1000 for that, with $50 donated by my mum Great aye. And trust me, Nelson is small compared to other cities here :p

Because a majority of the buildings which went down were schools, all of which were built by the same companies who skimped on materials and jumped hoops to make it cheaper to build, all in all it was the building companies fault that the buildings were not strong enough to withstand an earthquake.

But the earthquake was quite strong, I don't know if many buildings could stand it.

if they were properly built to withstand it, then yes they could have.

what about time? many of the buildings were probably old enough and their foundations were already weakened

    Almo Well-Known Member

thats what regular building instections are for. If they showed signs of weakness they should have been fixed.

how would you inspect the foundation if it is under ground?
