Way back in 1997 I began playing my first MMO, which I originally found the install for on a King's Quest V cd. Sierra had been experimenting with early mmo ideas which became The Realm Online. The lead coder and developer at the time, Stephen Nichols, was someone many of us who played got to know quite well. Twenty years later, after it switched hands from Sierra, to Codemasters, to Norseman Games and from 2013 on it was allowed to fall into a sad sad state. No staff, no updates, even the website itself has come to the point where they can't even keep subscriptions/the site up reliably anymore.

Seeing this, Stephen has decided to bring what he coins as a spiritual successor to the game, taking immense input into the design from the community at large (see http://community.therealm.io/ and just therealm.io for the synopsis). Currently, he's seeking help with initial development funding...while there may not be interest here, I felt..as much as this game meant to me...I'd at least find out. The link to donate with further story on this can be found at https://www.gofundme.com/the-realm ...

I've played a great many MMOs, from the original EQ to WoW, to Horizons, to UO... but none had the same appeal as this one did, especially in the sense of community. If you'd check it out I'd appreciate it, thanx.
